Another Attempt

This is my next attempt at a digital scrapbook page. I finally figured out how to use templates and found this MUCH more enjoyable this time! The picture is of Mckenna and I at the Palace of Versailles.

6 months later

And... I am finally finishing Mckenna's room! It has actually been WAY longer than six months since I started, but it is better late than never. I have had these unpainted picture frames and letters for a long time and I have never really known what I was going to do with them. I think that it turned out pretty cute though!

MY Mckenna

Typical...

Well, one sock is typical. She usually has pants on, but can't seem to keep socks on at least one of her feet! What a silly girl. I never liked socks or shoes as a kid either (who are we kidding I still don't like socks and shoes very much).

She also LOVES this doll that her cousin Jaci gave her. It has been in her crib since she was born. One day I came in and she was eating the dolls hair. Ever since then I have noticed that she loves playing with it and gets very excited to hold it and give it loves (really just stick it in her mouth like everything else).

Something for FREE

Jeff read on the internet that the city gives mulch away for free. Since we have been planting like crazy (and mulch can get expensive) we decided we would check it out. Well, we got there and we got Christmas tree mulch for FREE---I LOVE FREE THINGS! It smelled so good...just like Christmas trees! We decided we would go get some more on Saturday and when we pulled up we saw deer, and not just one or two deer, but TONS of deer. It was fun to see all of those deer in the middle of the city.



If anyone is interested in how to get free mulch (you know if you are ever planting anything in San Antonio you really should use it because the soil is all clay) you can go here.

On another note-
Mckenna went to the park for the first time on Friday. It was mostly an excuse to hang out with Jennifer and let Kyle play, but we had fun! She tried the swing for the first time and LOVED it! She was so cute and would have fallen asleep if I had let her! Cute girl!

Yum....

We started a garden! I have been wanting to do this for a while, and last week we finally did it!

We cleared out a patch of land, maybe a border, added some good dirt and mulch, and then we started planting. Right now we have broccoli, cabbage, onions, garlic, carrots, spinach and romaine lettuce growing. I started the seeds for cucumbers, cantaloupe, watermelon, zucchini, multi-colored bell peppers, jalapenos, serrano peppers, asparagus and swiss chard. We will also plant a couple more tomato plants (we already have two from last year) and some herbs like cilantro, basil, sage, thyme and spearmint. Later in the summer we will plant some pumpkins too and hopefully we will get some pumpkins to carve in the Fall! We also are now proud owners of a dwarf peach tree (they only get to be 6 feet tall and still produce great fruit) and 2 blackberry plants (which supposedly do amazing well in San Antonio) Anyway, we are really excited for the spring and summer months so that we can enjoy the fruits of our labors! And hopefully we can share them with all of you :-) (well if you live in San Antonio that is...)

What Never to do When You are Sick....

I have been sick. I have a cough and a constant headache. It has been no fun, and the mornings are ALWAYS the worst! Well, yesterday in the late morning I started feeling better so we went and has a fun MLK day. I kept feeling good, so I kept working on activities committee stuff late in to the night (like 12:30am). I walked into the office to pull a paper off the printer and then I coughed. The next thing I hear is Mckenna waking up.... NOOOOO! I totally woke her up! That started her terrible, no good, very rotten night! She cried for over an hour and then fell asleep only after drinking some water from her sippy cup. THEN, at 3:30am she woke again!!! I was so exhausted because I had stayed up so late, so I decided instead of doing what we normally do for night wakings (let her cry from 10 minutes and then check on her...) I would just let her have a bottle and I would rock her until she calmed down. Well, that helped but only a little!!!! She kept crying and crying and then she didn't fall back to sleep--- so at 4:30am I decided she would have to cry herself to sleep and I went back to bed. I closed her door and our door, covered my head and went back to sleep! It was terrible!

LESSON learned...

When I am sick DO not stay up late and cough near Mckenna's room!!!!

Dear Grandma Jones,
I know that you are one of mommy's most loyal blog readers, so I wanted to write you a letter on here. Thank you for my very cute Spanish outfit. I wore it for the first time today and looked VERY ADORABLE! Mommy added the brown sweater since it was a little chilly out this morning and it looked great! Today we went to the park, the Riverwalk for dinner and then mom took lots of pictures of me (on Daddy's beautiful green grass) to show you just how cute I looked! Enjoy lots of new pictures! I miss you and can't wait to play with you again in April!

Oh Fine

After being asked several times I will FINALLY post pictures. Mckenna is getting HUGE! I can not believe that she is 6 months old. Tomorrow she goes in for her 6 month appointment! I know she is going to be huge (like 17 or 18 lbs). Oh, I love my chubby-buggy! She has started to grow out of some many cute clothes- it is sad! But, this week she got to wear two cute new (well not really new) dresses. I will put those pictures up later! For now you can enjoy some pictures.



These are some other pictures I took of our nieces and nephews on Christmas day. I was playing "photo shoot" while they were playing outside! Some of them turned out so cute.

Parenting...

What a touchy subject! I was just reading a great friend's blog and there were so many comments with all kinds of advice. Some think this and other think that is awful (you know what I am talking about). I just couldn't help but feel annoyed that so many people would be so pushy about their views on parenting. Do we all have to think that letting your baby cry is bad? Do we all have to think that you should let your child cry for hours until they fall asleep? NO.... Personally Jeff and I did the REAL cry it out method found in this book (this is the original cry it out expert) and it isn't just let your baby cry for hours on end!! But, I would never push this on someone! I think it is great to suggestion maybe trying this out, but you don't have to be so pushy. I don't get why people have to be so "correct" when it comes to baby matters. There isn't one perfect way to parent a child. The way that I do it works great for us, but it probably wouldn't work for others. Uggghhh...I am still annoyed, but whatever! I just don't get moms sometimes :-)

Our first big OUCH!

Well, I laid Mckenna down on the bed and turned around...BUT I thought that Jeff would stay there and play with her (like he was when I laid her down). Jeff thought that I was staying with her and turned around at the EXACT same time I did. So, both of us thought that the other was staying with her. I walked into the bathroom to get the aquafor (for Mckenna's chapped face) and I heard Jeff scream....Turned just in enough time to see Mckenna hit the ground....Ran to pick her up and hold her while she cried. Jeff actually saw it happen, but was far enough from her that he couldn't get to her in time, but she landed in the best way possible (on her tummy with her arm her). Well, we calmed her down and then noticed that her tears were stained. The very corner of her eye was very red and she was bleeding from her eye! Poor baby. We called Jeff's cousin (Christopher) who is an eye doctor to find out if we needed to worry. He just said to wait and watch her! I was worried that her brain was bleeding and building up some much pressure that the blood was coming out her eye....just kidding, but it did enter my mind just a little. We watched her the rest of the night and all day the next day- she has done great! Ate well, slept well, and wasn't fussy!!! But, it was a pretty traumatic experience and I felt AWFUL!!!! I am sure that this is not the last injury for Mckenna :-(

Rolls

I have made these rolls twice now and LOVE them. We had some friends over for dinner tonight and they wanted the recipe. I thought I would just share it for everyone. It is on my sister-in-law's recipe blog. She also has lots of other DELICIOUS recipes- you should check it out!!!
